Happy Tuesday Scoopers! I hope you’re having a great week and enjoying this change in weather.
I mentioned celebrating the one year anniversary of the Sun City Scoop with a giveaway, and it is still coming together. Hoping to have this finalized for next week’s edition. Thank you for being here, I appreciate all of you who read this newsletter and reached out last week!
In this week’s Scoop:
New tenant for former Coco’s location
Sun City Day of Service is upcoming
Baby Hippo!!!
And so much more!

~ Something is finally happening at the former Coco’s location on Bell Road & 98th Ave. Taco Boy’s is bringing its popular street-style tacos to this property, adding another stop to its growing Valley footprint, which already includes six other metro Phoenix locations.
This building is over 7,000sf, which is much larger than the typical space for this style of restaurant. I wouldn’t be surprised if they only occupy a portion of this property and another business goes into the other half. (link & map)

~ The Sun City Home Owners Association is hosting a Community Day of Service, giving residents a chance to come together and give back right here in Sun City. Volunteers will work on local projects that support and beautify the community while connecting with neighbors along the way. It is a great opportunity to lend a hand and show pride in the place we call home.
This event is being held from 7-12pm on Friday, March 27th. Registration is required and open now. (link)
~ The Sun City Posse will be hosting a BLOOD DRIVE event in collaboration with Vitalant Blood Services that will take place at Posse Headquarters, 10861 W. Sunland Drive, from 8am-12pm on Thursday, February 26th. Appointments can be scheduled online at Vitalant.org/donate. Be sure to use donation code 10056257 for the event at Posse Headquarters. You can also call Vitalant at 877.258.4825 to schedule. Your gift could save a life!!
~ Cactus League Spring Training is officially underway across the Phoenix area, bringing Major League Baseball teams, players, and fans back to the Valley. Spring training is a great time to enjoy sunshine, affordable tickets, and up close baseball action right here at home.
Fox 10 News has put together a great guide for all of the Cactus League teams, so no matter who your team is, they have the details on how to see them this spring.

~ Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park just welcomed an adorable baby endangered pygmy hippopotamus that’s now splashing around with her mom in their habitat in the West Valley. Visitors can help choose her name by voting at the exhibit from options like Cadbury, Twixi, Jellybean or Taffy as part of the zoo’s public naming contest.

Camelback Mountain is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Phoenix, but it was not always guaranteed to remain public land. In the early 1900s, much of the mountain and surrounding desert was privately owned. As Phoenix expanded rapidly after World War II, developers saw opportunity in its elevated slopes and scenic views, and there were discussions about building homes higher onto the mountain.
By the 1960s, however, the idea of preserving desert mountains for public use began gaining support. The City of Phoenix gradually purchased parcels of land around Camelback through bond programs and negotiated acquisitions. Over time, those efforts protected the mountain from large scale development.
Today, instead of hillside subdivisions, Camelback remains open space and a defining feature of the city’s landscape. Its preservation reflects deliberate choices made during a period of intense growth that continue to shape Phoenix today.

What is that? UFO? Starting to see more and more of these strange bright clouds in the sky, but don’t worry, they are just a rocket ship launched by Space X from their facilities in California.
