ARIZONA TRIVIA
What as the original name of the main canal of the Central Arizona Project? |
Last week’s trivia question was ‘Who operated a ferry on the upper Colorado river near Page until his execution by a firing squad?’
The answer was: John Doyle Lee
The man who operated a ferry on the upper Colorado River near today’s Page was John D. Lee, a Mormon pioneer whose isolated homestead became known as Lee’s Ferry. Lee ran the crossing with his family in the 1870s, helping early settlers reach northern Arizona. His story took a darker turn when he became the only person executed for the Mountain Meadows Massacre, a tragic 1857 attack on an emigrant wagon train. Lee was tried, convicted, and executed by firing squad in 1877, but his ferry site remains an important landmark along the Colorado River. (link)

CLUBS

Miata owners & want to be owners. Did you know about the Sahuaro Miata Club of Phoenix? It is a Valleywide club, but the club president, Dennis Manning, is a Sun City West resident.
The Sahuaro Miata Club is very active with as many as 50 events each year, sometimes more. Their event types fall into three categories, local breakfast or lunch gatherings, one day driving events, usually to somewhere for lunch and overnight events that may be anywhere from 3 to 7 days. They even have events next year planned to Italy!
The common theme is of course our sports car the Mazda Miata. Miata’s have been around since 1990 and our club members have all different years from the early ones that had the pop-up headlights to the current models that are very competitive on the track or on a curvy road. Our club has been in existence since 1994 and the reason for our long-term success is our love of community. We enjoy so much getting together with our good friends in the club. A significant number of our members are retirement age and finally own the unabashed fun Miata that we longed for all those working years. We’d love for you to join us.
Learn more about the club and their events at Sahuaromiataclub.com. This club is open to owners of Mazda Miatas & those who are interested in, or are considering Miata ownership.
