COMMUNITY NEWS

~Survey to provide input on a new Loop 303 traffic interchange between US 60 and El Mirage Road closes March 24. The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and the cities of Peoria and Surprise, is studying a potential new traffic interchange on Loop 303 between US 60 and El Mirage Road. This potential new interchange would address growing traffic demand and high traffic volumes in the area, and alleviate some of the congestion at the existing US 60/Loop 303 traffic interchange and US 60/163rd Ave intersection.

This study will evaluate four alternatives for the location and design concept of a new traffic interchange between US 60 and El Mirage Road that will serve communities north of Loop 303 and east of US 60. A recommended interchange alternative will be identified for further design, once funding becomes available.

You can provide your input by completing this survey. (link)

Last week’s trivia question was, ā€˜In 1960, the United Nations & UNICEF used an image by this Arizona artist for their Christmas Card.’ The correct answer was Ted DeGrazia.

Ted’s 1957 oil painting ā€œLos NiƱosā€ was chosen for a 1960 holiday card that sold millions worldwide.

You can learn more about his artwork & life at DeGrazia.org, or visit the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun Museum in Tucson.

CLUBS

Does your house need some fresh flavor of the desert southwest? The Desert Garden Club of Sun City West hosts a plant sale every Thursday from 9am-12pm, and the first Saturday of each month through May. The sale is open to the public.

The SCW Desert Garden Club donates profits from its plant sales to various 501(c)(3)organizations that serve the Sun City West community. In 2023, $16,000 was given. In 2024 as of September, $31,000 was donated.

Their plant sale is a great way to help support the club and the community!

The Sun City West Desert Garden Club Greenhouse is located in the Beardsley Recreation Center (corner of 128th Ave. and Beardsley Road) courtyard, behind the meeting rooms. Entrance is easily obtained from the 128th Avenue parking lot by taking the sidewalk between the rec center and the pool building. The public is welcome to come and see the Greenhouse and the Botanical Garden where several desert plants have been labeled with their names.

Learn more at the club website.

The resident clubs are what make the Sun City communities so special, but there are literally hundreds of them and sharing all of the different club meeting & events in the newsletter is more than I can handle. It would be a mile long!!! 🤣

What would you like to see here? A club spotlight where you can learn more about one specific club and the leaders & members of that club? Club events open to anyone, not just residents of that community?

I’d love your feedback on what to do with this section of the newsletter. Please reply to this email with your thoughts. šŸ™
