ARIZONA TRIVIA
In 1960, the United Nations & UNICEF used an image by this Arizona artist for their Christmas Card. |
Last week’s trivia question was, ‘What was the original name of he Sun City Master Planned Community?’ There were 14 responses, and 5 of you got the correct answer, Marinette Retirement Community.
Sun City was opened January 1, 1960, with five home models, a shopping center, a recreation center, and a golf course. The opening weekend drew 100,000 people, ten times more than expected, and resulted in a Time magazine cover story. The future retirement community was built on the site of the former ghost town of Marinette. At first it was called the Marinette Retirement Community, but after a nationwide naming contest in which the winner would win a house, developer Del Webb selected the name Sun City. (link)

REAL ESTATE

Deal of the Week in The Grand. This approved short sale is the exact opposite of most short sales and bank owned homes. This one is in great conditions with lots of upgrades, and it has the lowest price per square foot in The Grand that you can go buy today.
See all the details & pics here.
Market Update
Here is a snapshot of home sale data from February 2025. As a whole, prices are pretty flat and the time it takes to sell a home currently is greater than it was a year ago.

Real estate is a hyper local exercise, and painting with broad strokes when comparing one community to another is quite challenging. If you have questions about your community, feel free to reach out.

CLUBS

The Sun City Mineral Museum and Rockhound Club is hosting an event on March 7th & 8th. Join them for their open house and rock sale at the Sundial Recreation Center.
Opened in 1990. the Sun City Mineral Museum is an extension of the Sun City Rockhound Club, which originally formed in 1963.
Over the years, the club has amassed an amazing collection of rocks and minerals, now housed at the Sundial Center. The museum has grown to include three display rooms with over 1,500 specimens on display.
The Rockhound Club participates in Sun City’s Arts & Crafts Festival on thanksgiving weekend and has a Rock Sale in March of each year. Specimens are available for purchase at both events and in the museum gift shop
Learn more about the museum & club at SCRockMuseum.com
The resident clubs are what make the Sun City communities so special, but there are literally hundreds of them and sharing all of the different club meeting & events in the newsletter is more than I can handle. It would be a mile long!!! 🤣
What would you like to see here? A club spotlight where you can learn more about one specific club and the leaders & members of that club? Club events open to anyone, not just residents of that community?
I’d love your feedback on what to do with this section of the newsletter. Please reply to this email with your thoughts. 🙏

RANDOM STUFF

My friend is an amazing bird photographer and he captured this amazing image of a Cardinal last week. He shares photos almost everyday of his walks in Arrowhead Ranch. You can see more of his images here, they are amazing!!!

Speaking of birds, have you seen the livestream of the bald eagle couple in Big Bear Valley in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California? They had two of their eggs hatch. This couple became famous in their steadfast pursuit of hatching their eggs, and it finally happened. You can watch along on YouTube. (link)

From a hike last week at the White Tank Mountains Regional Park. If you have never been, its just a short trip west and it is worth the $7 admission fee. There are many beautiful spots that do not require much of a walk from the car. (map)
